Best Buildxact Alternative Australia

Buildxact vs NextMinute

Sizing up Buildxact? Here's the honest rundown. Both start at A$199 a month, but NextMinute's built for the crew on site, with live job cost tracking and two-way Xero, MYOB & QuickBooks sync included.

The quick version 👀

Buildxact vs NextMinute, in a nutshell

  • Same starting price: both kick off at A$199/month (as of July 2026). So pick on fit, not the sticker.
  • Buildxact is a solid Aussie-owned estimating-and-takeoffs tool — good if most of your day's spent in the office. Unlimited users, best rate on a 12-month plan.
  • NextMinute is built for the whole crew on site — quoting, scheduling, timesheets, variations, progress claims and live job costing, all in one spot.
  • Accounting: we sync with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks, and pull in supplier invoices so back-costing sorts itself.
  • No games: month-to-month, no lock-in, 10-day free trial, and a Sydney crew you can actually get on the phone.

Short story: If you're running multi-stage builds and renos and want the team actually using the thing on site, NextMinute's the better fit. If you live in estimates all day from a desk, Buildxact's a fair shout.

The best Buildxact alternative for residential trades

Made for site, not just the desk

Buildxact is great if you're parked in the office knocking out detailed takeoffs and estimates all day. But if you're an Aussie builder or tradie who's forever between the office and site, NextMinute's built for you and the crew. It's dead simple to use, so everyone (not just the estimator) can jump in and get stuff done.

From the first quote to the final invoice, you run the whole job in NextMinute: book in the work, schedule the crew, track time, sort variations, raise POs, send progress claims, and keep an eye on your margin as you go.

Perfect for residential builds, renos, landscaping, carpentry or any job where you need to know, right now, what's going on with your work and your team.

  • Accounting your way — two-way sync with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks, plus supplier invoice import for easy back-costing.
  • Flexible and local — month-to-month, no lock-in, and one-on-one setup from a Sydney team.

Buildxact

  • Estimating and takeoffs — best for builders who spend most of the day in the office on measurements and costing.
  • Scheduling off your estimate — drag-and-drop Gantt built from your estimate tasks.

We're a new and rapidly growing landscaping company, and NextMinute has been an incredible platform for us. It's helped us create structure and solid processes, speed up our quoting, and present a more professional front to our clients. It's also made a big difference for our team — allowing them to track their time more accurately — and has given us much clearer insight into our finances...

Common Questions

We’ve answered the ones we hear most from builders and tradies.

How is NextMinute different from Buildxact?

While Buildxact is a solid choice for detailed takeoffs and office-based estimating, NextMinute is built more for the day-to-day grind on-site. It’s designed so the whole crew—from the boss to the apprentice—can actually use it to manage schedules, track time, and handle variations while they’re out on the tools.

Is NextMinute just for the office, or can the crew use it too?

It’s definitely for the whole team. The mobile app is a proper site-first tool that lets the crew log timesheets, check site plans, and snap photos, while you can still handle the quoting, POs, and invoicing from your phone or tablet without heading back to the shed.

Can I import my existing takeoffs into NextMinute?

You sure can. If you’ve got takeoffs from a quantity surveyor or another software package, you can pull those straight into NextMinute to get your quotes and actual-vs-estimate reporting sorted without entering all that data twice.

Does NextMinute handle progress claims and variations?

It handles them easily. You can manage client variations on the fly and set up progress payments so you aren't waiting until the very end of a renovation or build to get some cash flowing back into the business.

How does the pricing compare to Buildxact's tiered plans?

We keep it simple with predictable, crew-based pricing. Unlike some software that hides the best job management features behind expensive pro tiers or paid add-ons, our plans give you full access to all the features based on how many people are in your crew.

What kind of scheduling tools does NextMinute have?

You get a proper visual Gantt chart for your job planning. It lets you lay out the stages of a build, assign tasks to the crew, and track progress against your budget so you always know if a project is actually making you money.

Is it difficult to switch over from Buildxact?

The transition is pretty smooth because we offer one-on-one onboarding. We'll help you import your existing data, get your accounting software synced up, and make sure the crew knows how to use the app so you're not left scratching your head.

Do I need a separate app for my site diaries and photos?

There's no need for that. The site diary is built right in, so the crew can log what’s been done, add photos of the progress, and keep everything organised in one spot. It makes it much easier to show the client what's been happening on-site.

Which trades is this better suited for compared to an estimating-only tool?

It’s perfect for residential builders, chippies, landscapers, and reno specialists. If you’re running multi-stage projects and need to manage people and costs daily—not just do a quick measurement and quote—NextMinute is usually the better fit for your workflow.

Can I track my actual costs against my estimates?

That’s one of the best bits. You get real-time reporting on your actual costs versus your estimates for every job or even just a specific stage. It’s a lifesaver for seeing exactly where your margin is being chewed up before it's too late.
