A free online building quote template for Kiwi builders and renovators. Price each stage line by line, with waste and margin on every item, set GST to 15% and it totals the lot. Print a branded PDF, export to CSV or send it into NextMinute. Nothing's stored online.
Free. Just pop in your details to get started.

Enter the job once and the totals look after themselves. No more copying last job's spreadsheet and hoping you caught every number.
Your logo and business name, the client, the site, quote date, valid-until date and payment terms.
Start from the building template and rename the stages to suit: demo, frame, lock-up, fit-off. Add a line for every labour, material and subcontractor cost.
Units, rate and charge type on each line, with its own waste % and margin %. Timber carries wastage. A subcontractor's quote doesn't.
Subtotal, GST and total, ready to print as a PDF with your logo, export to CSV or send to NextMinute.
New builds, extensions, renos and decks. Long jobs with dozens of costs, where one missed line can wipe out your margin. Built for Kiwi residential builders and renovators with a crew to keep busy.

Nothing left off the quote
Labour, materials, deliveries, subcontractors and allowances each get their own line. Nothing hides in a lump sum.
Margin on every line
Framing timber and a sparky's quote don't need the same markup. Set waste % and margin % per item.
A quote that looks the part
A clean PDF with your logo and terms, sent the same day as the site visit.
What To Include
A building quote has two jobs: win the work and protect your margin. Price every job in the same buckets, add your allowances, then GST.
Labour + Materials + Subcontractors + Allowances + Margin and wastage + GST = Quote total
Build up the labour. Crew hours per stage at your charge-out rate, including supervision and site time. Then materials at today's supplier prices, plus delivery.
Add subcontractor quotes as their own lines with your margin on top, and put a waste % on anything you cut.
Set PC sums, provisional sums and terms. Allowances for anything the client hasn't picked yet, plus exclusions, the valid-until date and your payment claim terms.
Check these are in. They're the lines most often left off a build.
It's usually the same four.
Hours pulled from memory, not built up from the scope.
Timber, plasterboard and tiles priced at net quantity, then you're short on site.
A provisional sum with no description turns into an argument at handover.
Changes agreed on site that never make it onto an invoice.
Once the client signs, send the quote into NextMinute and it becomes a live job. Schedule the crew, log time and costs as they happen, price variations and see actual vs quoted while the build's still running.

We’ve answered the ones we hear most from Kiwi builders and tradies.
A building quote in NZ should include labour built up from the scope, materials at current merchant rates with wastage, subcontractor costs, PC sums and provisional sums, margin and GST at 15%. Spell out exclusions, the valid-until date and payment terms too. The free quote builder has a line for each, and NextMinute quoting software keeps the same structure on every job.
The GST rate in the quote builder is editable, so change it from the 10% default to 15% in the quote details before you add your lines. The quote summary then shows the subtotal, GST at 15% and the total. In NextMinute, NZ GST is already set up, so quotes and invoices use 15% without any changes.
A PC (prime cost) sum is an allowance for materials or fittings the client hasn't picked yet, like tapware or appliances. A provisional sum covers work you can't fully price yet, like rock or extra foundations. Give each a clear description and dollar figure as its own line. If the final cost differs, it becomes a variation you can track in NextMinute.
A quote is a fixed price for a defined scope, while an estimate is a best guess that can change. Kiwi clients usually want a quote, so be clear about what's included, what's excluded and what's a PC or provisional sum. Price variations as they come up and record them in NextMinute so they end up on the invoice.
Price travel for out-of-town builds as its own line, not hidden in your rates. Add crew travel time, vehicle running costs and any accommodation, and multiply by the days on site. For diesel utes, remember Road User Charges on top of fuel. The fuel cost calculator works out the fuel side before you add it to the quote.
Set out your payment terms on the quote so the client knows when each payment claim is due, for example a deposit then claims at key stages. The quote builder has a payment terms field that prints on the PDF. Once the job is live, NextMinute invoicing lets you raise claims against the quote as each stage is done.
No, the free quote builder doesn't store anything online. Export your quote as a CSV before you close the page, then import it next time to carry on. If you want every quote kept against the job and client, start a free NextMinute trial and export the quote straight in.
Yes, upload your logo in the quote details and it prints on the PDF along with your business name, client details, quote date, valid-until date and payment terms. A branded PDF looks far more professional than a spreadsheet when the client is comparing builders. In NextMinute, every quote carries your branding automatically.
Yes, NextMinute connects to Xero, so invoices raised against a job flow through to your accounts without double entry. The free quote builder doesn't connect to Xero itself, but once you export a quote into NextMinute, the job, invoices and payments all sync. See how it works on the NextMinute Xero integration page.
Exporting a quote to NextMinute turns it into a live job with the same stages and line items. From there you can schedule the crew, record timesheets against each stage and compare actual costs to your quote while the build is still running. Try it with a free NextMinute trial, or read about job back-costing.
